Territorial planning for climate change: anticipating with Ingetec
At Ingetec, we believe that local authorities which anticipate climate change in their territorial planning today will be the most resilient in the face of ongoing and future disruptions, thereby protecting citizens, natural resources, biodiversity, and infrastructures.
Indeed, when addressing climate change, local authorities face several key challenges in territorial planning: adapting existing infrastructures, protecting against disasters, and preserving natural areas while limiting land artificialisation.
However, the longer a local authority waits to adapt, the higher the cost of inaction will be. According to the Stern Review, the cost of action is estimated at around 1% of GDP, compared to 5% to 20% for inaction.
A study conducted by the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) Hauts-de-France showed that every €1 invested generates between €0.7 and €2 in benefits for local businesses by 2030. The impact is also positive in terms of job creation.
Thus, the “winners” of the transition will be those local authorities that begin adapting today for tomorrow, positively influencing public spending by working with skilled partners who understand their challenges as well as the demands of territorial planning.
